Arranging Your Appointments

For the Doctor

With a slight variation between doctors, morning consultations at the surgery take place between 8:45am and 11:30am and afternoon consultations between 2:30pm and 5:30pm.

 

All surgery consultations are by telephone then, if required, a face to face appointment is made for the next available appointment time.

If you are going to be late or are unable to attend your appointment please let us know.  This is important as the practice operates a strict policy for DNA’s(Did Not Attend). Please remember that each appointment slot is for one problem and one person.  If you require longer or want a member of your family to be seen at the same time as you, please ask the receptionist and she will arrange extra time for you.

Booking Your Appointment

To book your appointment you can telephone the surgery on 0191 4897183 and your appointment will be triaged by a clinician. You can also register for online booking (** see below**) The practice will not normally pre-book appointments unless you have difficulty booking on the day due to work commitments, or it is for one of the chronic disease clinics.

We will try to put you with the clinician of your choice this will not always be possible in which case, you will be offered an appointment with a clinician who is available.

When booking your appointment you will be asked by the receptionist to explain briefly what the problem is, this is so that she can book you with the relevant person (not always the doctor) for the relevant amount of time.

PLEASE REMEMBER TO CANCEL YOUR APPOINTMENT IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO ATTEND.  WE CAN THEN OFFER THAT APPOINTMENT TO ANOTHER PATIENT.

 

Online Appointment Booking

You can now book appointments online by clicking on the ‘Appointment’ icon at the bottom of this page. Inappropriate use of the appointments may result in your access to this service being removed.

 

If you have not registered for the New Online Services, please speak to Reception.

 

Advice and Information by Telephone

A Triage Doctor or  Nurse Practitioner is available to offer telephone advice daily.

  • Mornings   8:45am – 11:30am

  • Afternoons 2:30pm – 5:30pm

If you telephone outside of these times you may be asked to phone back or leave a message so that someone can come back to you. The Nurse Practitioner may be able to advise you over the phone but if necessary will offer you an appointment to be seen in the practice.

The Nurse Practitioners can diagnose and prescribe and also run their own surgeries for minor ailments. Appointments can be booked with the Nurse Practitioner in the usual way.

For the Nurse

We operate a booked appointment system for all clinics. When booking your appointment please let Reception know what your appointment is for, so that they can advise you when would be the best time for you to come and the length of appointment you require.

Access for the Disabled

  • Disabled car parking

  • Access into the practice without steps

  • Toilet available for disabled patients

  • Access for wheelchair users

Home Visits

We prefer patients to come to surgery if they can. Therefore home visits are reserved only for those patients who are too ill to attend the surgery or are housebound.  If you need a home visit please telephone 0191 4897183 as early as possible and be prepared to answer some questions to enable the doctor to assess the urgency.

Emergencies

During Surgery hours an emergency is a medical problem that needs attention within 30 minutes. After hours it is a medical problem that cannot wait until the surgery opens.
